Your real name
I’m Elton J. Robaina (@eltonrobaina on GitHub).
Your location and, if different, your institute’s location
I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Your institute (or who you work mainly for)
I’m a first-year Ph.D. student at Instituto Militar de Engenharia
What do you do?
I work with related research atmospheric observations with Radar, utilizing the Python ARM Radar Toolkit (Py-ART) and wradlib in short-term rain forecasting projects.
Especially with respect to radar science, what are you trying to do?
We are trying to implement tools, based on open source, for short-term rain forecasting in disaster situations.

Hello all, let me introduce myself
My name is Yudha Nugraha, I live in Padang, Sumatera Barat Province, Indonesia
Recently, i’m work as meteorologist at Indonesian Meteorological Agency
I’m pursuing my master degree in Atmospheric Physics Research at Andalas University, and I’ve been interested about radar data and processing with python language, but I’m still newbie about the language.
So, nice to see all the discussion, and I’m very pleasant looking the kindness of all the scientist in this forum for sharing their knowledges

Bino Maiheu
Your location and, if different, your institute’s location
Belgium, close to the beautiful city of Ghent
Your institute (or who you work mainly for)
Flanders Environment Agency (VMM)
What do you do?
I’m a particle physicist by education, but most of my carrier I have worked as an environmental modeller/data-scientist/-engineer working on air quality models using both numerical models (CFD) as well as data-driven approaches. Recently I started working at the Flanders Environment Agency where I do a bit of IoT firmware development, some discharge field work in the waterways, and some work on the precipitation radar at Helchteren for which I’m trying to improve our in-house QPE estimates for hydrological modelling purposes.
Especially with respect to radar science, what are you trying to do?
First of all understand more about the hardware, correction algorithms and caveat’s concerning QPE estimation. Ultimately - given time - , my goal is to improve the existing setup using open source tools, partly to save some precious euro’s but mainly to strengthen our understanding internally here at VMM of the radar data processing & corrections.

I’m co-organising a yearly large neighborhood community festival spread over 4 days with our neighborhood committee and I myself, together with the two teenagers my and my wife spawned to eventually replace ourselves, are big Korfball-fans. A very much unknown sport, originating in the Netherlands, but the only one in which men & women are playing together on the field. Programming- language wise, I’ve gone from cursing on GOTO statements in Fortran77, over banging my head against the wall using C/C++ over segfaults, to being annoyed by the huge license fees of MATLAB and finally enjoying the ride in Python :).
